Finding Airports
There are three ways to locate an airport:
- Use the ICAO Airport Identifier
For pilots, this is the fastest and easiest method. Prior to entering the Identifier,
be sure to select what airport information you wish to be displayed.
Selecting Management Information will show contact information for the Airport Manager.
Selecting Flight Service Station Information will show contact information for the applicable FSS.
Selecting Services will show FAA supplied data concerning
repairs, oxygen, lights, operation schedule, lighting, CTAF, and fees.
Note that this is only a reference, and does not fulfill the pilot's requirement to obtain adequate preflight information.
If Display Airport Diagram is selected a diagram will be displayed (if available).
Click here to see what you can do after the airport is found.
- Use Word(s) in Either the City or Airport Name
Think you know the airport or city name, but can not remember the Identifier?
Then this is the way to find it! You just enter a word or two from the city or airport name and
press the "Click Here" search button at the bottom of the screen.
The results often have a suprisingly large number of airports.
You can limit your search criteria with the checkboxes.
i.e. Selecting Public will yield any Public Use airports,
and selecting Private will yield any Private Use airports.
Note that if you do not select at least one, no airports will appear!
This page can be a big help when you are traveling to a unfamiliar city and need
a minimum runway length, etc. The Information to be Displayed works as
described in the Use ICAO Identifier section.

- Use Word(s) in the Name of a Nearby Place
Going someplace where you don't know what airports are nearby? This is the one for you.
You just enter a word or two from the desired place name and press the "Click Here" search button at the bottom of the screen. A list of possible places will be displayed and you then click on the desired one.
You control the search readius and further limit your search criteria with the checkboxes.
The Information to be Displayed works as
described in the Use ICAO Identifier section.
...After the Airport is Determined...
Once the desired Airport has been selected and basic information displayed, the user can
quickly find runway information and nearby fuel suppliers and aviation businesses. The user
can even specify a search radius to find aviation businesses, restaurants, hotels, and ground
transportation using the respective button. Except for fuel suppliers, these searches can be limited to
desired classifications. Just the thing to find out if there is a Propeller Shop or Chinese restaurant nearby!
